Common questions
Do I need an account?
No. Lingo has no accounts or sign-in. Everything you do is stored on your iPhone.
Why do I see the message “You've seen every word”?
Lingo avoids showing you the same words again. When you've seen everything that matches your filters, tap Start over to go through the words again. Your likes and saved words are kept. You can also open Settings → Preferences and select more age ranges or topics.
What do the age ranges mean?
They show the approximate age of the people who typically use an expression. They are not about your age, how old the word is, or whether the word is suitable for you.
Why do I have to watch an ad to change the theme?
You can preview every theme for free in Settings. To keep a different theme, Lingo asks you to watch a short ad when you go back to the words. If you'd rather not, choose “Not now” and nothing changes. When the ad is done, you'll see a “Theme unlocked” confirmation. Themes aren't unlocked permanently: switching again later needs another ad.
I watched the ad but my theme didn't change.
The theme is only kept when the ad provider confirms that the ad was completed. If the ad was closed early, failed to load, or the app was interrupted, you'll see a “Theme not changed” message and your previous theme stays active. Check your connection and try again.
Why can't I see words with swearing?
“Hide strong language” is on by default. It hides words with swearing or sexual references in the feed and in search. You can turn it off in Settings → Preferences.
How do I turn Word of the day on or off?
Open Settings → Preferences and use the “Word of the day” switch. You can also pick the time. If notifications are turned off for Lingo in the iOS Settings app, turn them on there first.
How do I save a word image to Photos?
Tap the share button on a word and choose “Save Image”. The first time, iOS asks if Lingo may add photos to your library.
How do I report an inappropriate ad?
Tap “Report ad” on the ad itself. You can hide it and choose a reason, or email us about it. You can also use the AdChoices icon in the corner of the ad.
How do I change my privacy choices for ads?
If you're in a region where ad consent applies (such as the EU, EEA or UK), open Settings and tap “Privacy choices” at the bottom. See the Privacy Policy for details.
How do I delete my data?
All your Lingo data (likes, saved words, filters, theme and viewing history) is stored only on your iPhone. Deleting the app removes it.
I found a mistake in a definition.
Thank you! Email us the word and what you think is wrong, and we'll look into it.
